Danielle Fishel recently provided a candid update on her journey through breast cancer treatment, revealing the harsh realities following her 20 rounds of radiation. While she celebrated being done with active treatment, the aftermath has proven to be quite challenging.
On the latest episode of Pod Meets World, Fishel humorously shared her status with co-hosts Rider Strong and Will Friedle, noting that although she is officially finished with radiation, the side effects are far from over. The combination of 15 rounds of whole breast radiation and five rounds of targeted treatment has left her with severe skin irritation resembling a bad sunburn.
Describing her discomfort, Fishel expressed how even simple actions like wearing a bra or lying down have become painful experiences. The itchiness of her rash adds to the struggle, as any attempt to soothe it results in intense pain. Her resilience shines through as she acknowledges the temporary nature of her suffering, reminding herself that recovery is on the horizon.
Despite the fatigue that accompanies her healing process, Fishel’s determination remains strong. She humorously recounted her doctor’s advice about the cumulative effects of radiation and the importance of hydration and exercise for recovery. With a lighthearted tone, she shared her commitment to working out as part of her healing journey.
Looking ahead, Fishel plans to start hormone therapy with Tamoxifen once she feels better from the radiation effects. She reflects on the treatment process, noting that while radiation was manageable, the side effects are a different story altogether. Her journey serves as a reminder of both the physical and emotional challenges faced by those undergoing cancer treatment.
