Billy Ray Cyrus’s striking performance of “Achy Breaky Heart” and “Old Town Road” at the 2025 Liberty Ball, part of Donald Trump’s inauguration, drew significant attention as observers noted that he appeared to be uncharacteristically off.
Technical issues marred his time on stage, and at one point, he paused to ask the audience, “Do you want me to sing more, or should I just leave the stage?” This incident has sparked concerns regarding Billy Ray’s mental and physical health.
In the aftermath of his performance, which quickly circulated on social media, Trace Cyrus—Billy Ray’s son—took to Instagram to express his worries, stating that his father is “not healthy” and that “everyone is noticing it.”
Trace also mentioned continuing to “pray” for his father’s health and would “love to help” him if needed. Continue reading to discover more about Trace’s thoughts on his father’s situation.
What Trace Cyrus has to say about his father, Billy Ray Cyrus
Trace, 35, was adopted by Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus—the singer’s ex-wife—in 1993. He was 4 years old at the time and was “obsessed” with his father.
“Since my earliest memories, all I can remember is being obsessed with you and thinking you were the coolest person ever,” Trace wrote on Instagram. “I wanted to be just like you.”
“The day you adopted me was the happiest day of my life.”
After his father’s head turning performance, though, Trace said that the “man that I wanted so desperately to be just like I barely recognize now.”
“It seems this world has beaten you down, and it’s become obvious to everyone but you.

Trace continued to say that even though he knows his father “may be upset with me for posting this, I really could care less at this point.”
“As I write this with tears in my eyes, I hope you realize this message only comes from a place of love and also fear that the world may lose you far too soon.”
Billy Ray is currently 63 years old, single and has no known health conditions.
