Following a highly successful appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Maura Higgins joined us to discuss her experiences in the jungle.
As a late entrant to the show alongside Reverend Richard Coles, Maura frequently found herself apologizing, saying “sorry Father,” as she inadvertently took the Lord’s name in vain. She remarked, “I had no idea how often I used the words ‘Jesus’ or ‘God’ until I was in his presence, and I ended up constantly apologizing.”
In addition to her apologies, Maura entertained fans with memorable phrases, such as “A for a—hole!” during her trial with Jane Moore, a remark she admitted she did not even recall making.
Beyond her humorous quips, Maura opened up about more personal matters, including her romantic life, while in camp.
She shared insights about her ex-boyfriend who inspired her to participate in Love Island in 2019. Furthermore, she revealed details about her developing relationship with Strictly Come Dancing star Pete Wicks.
Although she initially aimed to keep the relationship private, Maura occasionally forgot about the cameras, leading her to inadvertently mention Pete during the show. Upon her exit, her first inquiry to her manager was, “Is Pete still in Strictly?”
We inquired with Maura regarding any regrets she might have about her discussions on the show, to which she responded that she has none. She elaborated, stating, “I feel like I never really have regrets, you know, and I truly forget about the cameras.”
“I genuinely do forget, and there are moments when I think, ‘Why did I… perhaps I really didn’t realize I was on camera for that.’ But it’s all right.”
“You aim to connect with these individuals on a deeper level, and honestly, if you are preoccupied with the cameras constantly, you will struggle to be open,” she concluded.
The 2024 camp certainly witnessed the participants becoming more vulnerable with one another than in previous years. The celebrities discussed a range of topics, including postnatal depression, body image, anxiety, and mortality.
Reflecting on her experience in the camp, Maura remarked, “I felt a strong connection with everyone, which was truly wonderful. We all got along so well; it was an exceptionally nice group of people. I felt fortunate to be part of this year’s cast.”
This follows an incident where Pete revealed his friend and podcast host Sam Thompson’s efforts to introduce Maura to the family on “I’m A Celebrity: Unpacked,” despite attempts to maintain discretion.
While Sam and Kemi Rodgers’ co-host Joel Dommett were sharing light-hearted banter on the spin-off show, Sam refrained from commenting due to his “loyalty” to Pete. On their podcast “Staying Relevant,” Pete humorously noted, “Yeah, until you conducted her exit interview and said, ‘Welcome to the family.'”
