In a candid revelation during her new documentary series, Molly-Mae: Behind It All, Molly-Mae Hague has shared the motivations behind her decision to end her relationship with Tommy Fury, expressing that it was not her desire to do so, but she felt she had “no choice.”
Prior to the documentary’s debut on Amazon Prime, Tommy disclosed in an interview with Men’s Health UK that he struggled with alcohol addiction in 2024, which contributed to the deterioration of his relationship with Molly. In response, Molly has disclosed that she implored him to remain sober, particularly during her sister Zoe Rae’s wedding.
In the documentary, Molly stated: “At my sister’s wedding, I literally pleaded with Tommy – I begged him – to refrain from drinking.” Overcome with emotion, she added: “It’s just really sad…It’s just so sad. It affected me. That’s why my relationship with alcohol is so damaged.”
Molly openly discussed how witnessing Tommy’s inability to manage his drinking affected her, drawing from her own childhood experiences.
She elaborated: “I never wanted to be with someone who drank because my mother went through a difficult time after her 25-year marriage ended, leading her to drink excessively.”
“I was only about 14 or 15 when that occurred, and I witnessed my mother in distressing situations,” she recounted.
In another segment of the episode, while conversing with her mother, Molly mentioned that she could not recall any instances of Tommy drinking that did not culminate in a “disaster.” She expressed that she had ceased to look forward to events because alcohol would invariably impact them.
Despite her reluctance to end the relationship and her current hope for reconciliation, Molly revealed the underlying reason for her public announcement of their breakup.
“You don’t really have another choice. You have to do what you have to do. I decided I don’t have another night left in me, lying in bed feeling upset,” she explained.
“It was a situation where if I don’t post this statement [on Instagram], I’m not going to do this. I’m not going to walk away. Unless I put this out – it needs to happen.”

Earlier in the week, ahead of the documentary’s premiere on Amazon Prime, Tommy revealed in an interview with Men’s Health UK that he developed an alcohol addiction in 2024 which led to the break down of his and Molly’s relationship. Now, Molly has revealed she begged him to stay sober, especially at her sister Zoe Rae’s wedding.
Talking in the show, Molly says;
“At my sister’s wedding I literally pleaded with Tommy – I begged him – to not drink.” She then broke down into tears saying: “It’s just really sad…It’s just so sad. It affected me. That’s why my relationship with alcohol is so damaged.”
Molly candidly opened up about how seeing Tommy not being able to control his drinking impacted her due to her childhood.
She explained: “I never ever wanted to be with someone that drank because my mum had a period of time in her life where she struggled because her marriage of 25 years had just ended and she turned to drink more than she should have.”
“I was only about 14 or 15 when that happened and I saw my mum in some states,” she said.
Elsewhere in the episode, talking to her mum, Molly said she couldn’t remember any times that Tommy drank which didn’t end in a “disaster”. She said that she had stopped looking forward to anything because alcohol would affect it.
Despite not wanting to end things, and even now admitting she hopes they will get back together, Molly exposed the real reason she publicly announced their split.
“You don’t really have another choice. You have to do what you have to do. I decided I don’t have another night left in me, lying in bed feeling upset,” she started.
“It was a situation of if I don’t post this statement [on Instagram], I’m not going to do this. I’m not going to walk away. Unless I put this out – it needs to happen.”
She expressed to her sister Zoe, “I am not ending my relationship with him due to a lack of love; rather, I am doing so because he has left me with no other options.”
In her Instagram statement released in August of the previous year, Molly remarked, “I never anticipated that I would have to write this. After five years together, I could not have foreseen the conclusion of our story, especially not in this manner. It is with great sadness that I announce the end of my relationship with Tommy.
“I will always cherish the most significant aspect of my life, my beautiful daughter. Without our union, she would not exist, and she will forever remain my top priority.
“I want to express my gratitude for the love and support you have all shown us throughout these five years. You have been an integral part of our journey, and I feel it is important to share this news with you. As I navigate the upcoming days and weeks, I kindly ask for your respect regarding my privacy during this challenging time; I will return when the moment feels appropriate.”
In response, Tommy issued a statement saying, “It is with a heavy heart that I announce Molly and I have chosen to end our relationship. The past five years have blessed us with our beautiful daughter, Bambi, and I will always be grateful to Molly for giving me the opportunity to be a father.
“Bambi remains our priority. I kindly request that you respect our privacy, as well as that of our families, as we work through this difficult period.”
At one point in the docuseries, Molly reflects, “I have been clinging to the hope that, as soulmates, we will eventually find our way back to each other.”
In a teaser for the upcoming second installment of the documentary series, set to premiere on Amazon Prime in the spring, Molly is shown reacting to tabloids that have captured images of her and Tommy sharing a kiss on New Year’s Eve, four months after their separation.
She exclaims, “Oh my god, what?! ‘Molly-Mae and Tommy Fury kiss on New Year’s Eve.’ That is so unfortunate.”
