NYPD reforms aim to enhance safety and accountability in vehicle use and pursuits
First off, Tisch is reviewing the department’s auto leasing program. This program helps undercover officers get vehicles that don’t scream “cop car.” But there’s a problem. Some of these cars are being used for personal commutes, which isn’t cool.
Tisch is making sure every vehicle in the program is accounted for and that there’s a good reason for each one. She’s clear: no executive should be using these cars for their daily drives. It’s about time someone said it!
On top of that, she’s also looking to crack down on parking placard misuse. There are tons of permits floating around, and the NYPD needs to enforce the rules better. No more blocking bike lanes or sidewalks, please!
And let’s not forget about the new rules for high-speed chases. They’ve been happening way too often, leading to injuries and even deaths. Tisch is making it clear that chases should only happen for serious crimes and should be avoided in residential areas.
The NYPD has dedicated officers who work hard to keep the city safe. They deserve leadership that supports them, and it looks like they’re finally getting it.
