A woman has been charged over the alleged historical sexual abuse of her former 15-year-old basketball student in the Australian Capital Territory.

Police searched the 39-year-old’s home yesterday as part of their investigations into the alleged abuse of the teenage girl in 2009.

The woman was then charged with four counts of sexual intercourse with a young person under 16 years and two historical family violence offences against the same victim – choking another person and possessing an offensive weapon with intent.

“Police will allege that the woman met and abused the child while she was the victim’s basketball coach in 2009,” police said.

Police added there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences in the territory and it is never too late to report an alleged crime.

The 39-year-old woman was due to appear at the ACT Magistrates Court this morning.

Anyone with information relating to this matter is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
