The police believe this was a targeted attack, likely involving someone known to the victim. The 51-year-old suspect was arrested Thursday morning with help from British Transport Police.
Emergency services were called to Dukinfield in Tameside around 4 PM on Wednesday after reports of the stabbing at the Church Street and Hope Street junction. Investigators focused on that area, including outside Ravensfield Primary School, where they conducted door-to-door inquiries.
A spokesperson for the school reassured parents that all children were safe following the incident. Greater Manchester Police confirmed the woman is recovering well and that they launched an immediate investigation with local detectives and specialist units.
Detective Inspector Lisa Devitt addressed the community’s concerns, stating that there’s no ongoing threat to residents. She emphasized their commitment to tackling violence and ensuring victim safety. The police are also urging anyone with information to come forward.
