A man has been hit with terror-related charges after allegedly throwing bottles around at a Sydney shopping centre last month.

Police were called to a Westfields in Miranda, in Sydney’s south on July 24 to reports of a man throwing bottles inside a bathroom on the first floor of the shopping centre.

A 21-year-old man was searched and arrested at the time, with police finding a knife, a bottle and other items in his possession.

He was taken to Sutherland Police Station and was charged.

That matter remains before the courts.

As part of further investigations, police executed a search warrant at home in Loftus, where they seized electronic devices, mobile phones and chemicals.

The Joint Counter Terrorism Team has laid additional charges against the 21-year-old following the search warrant.

The charges include knowingly collecting/making documents connected with terrorism and acting in preparation/planning for a terrorist act.

Police will allege the man has “mixed and unclear ideological beliefs”.

The man remains on remand and will appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on September 25.
