Police are investigating an Easter Monday stabbing in inner Sydney that has left a man recovering in hospital.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Lyons Road and Gipps Street in Drummoyne about 10.30am today. 

Police arrived to find the 60-year-old man with a stab wound to his upper body.

The man was treated at the scene by paramedics before he was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police said a crime scene has been established and detectives are investigating the circumstances around the incident.
