New Rochelle: So, there’s some serious stuff going down with Mariano Rivera and his wife, Clara. They’re being accused of covering up child sexual abuse at their church, Refuge of Hope. This all came out in a lawsuit filed in New York.
The lawsuit claims they didn’t do anything when they found out a young girl was being abused. The girl was allegedly abused by another minor during a summer internship in Florida that was linked to their church. Clara is said to have convinced the girl’s family to let her go to this internship.
Things got worse when the Riveras went to the camp themselves. Instead of helping, they reportedly isolated the girl to keep her quiet about the abuse. The lawsuit also mentions that the abuse continued at a barbecue at their home after the girl returned.
There’s more, too. An associate pastor’s son is also accused of abusing the girl later on. The complaint highlights other abuse cases at the Ignite Life Center, where several people have been arrested for similar crimes. It’s a really troubling situation.
