A rideshare driver has been charged with rape and false imprisonment after a teen was allegedly attacked after getting into his vehicle.

The 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Melbourne’s CBD after getting into what she believed was a rideshare, shortly before 2am on Monday, police alleged.

Officers arrested a 43-year-old man at his Pakenham home on Thursday.

He has been charged with rape and false imprisonment, and his rideshare driver’s licence has been suspended.

The man will face Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday over the charges.
