Ramsbottom: A heartbreaking case has emerged involving a 94-year-old woman, Lilian Walsh, who suffered terribly in her final months. Her son, Graham Walsh, was supposed to care for her but failed miserably.
When paramedics found her, she was covered in bruises and had severe pressure sores. She was lying on a filthy mattress and had a leg injury. Sadly, she passed away just two days after being taken to the hospital.
Lilian had dementia and had previously been in a care home. After a meeting in January 2018, she was discharged into her son’s care. Despite being given medical equipment and training, Graham didn’t seek any help for her over the next year.
In December 2018, he called for emergency help, claiming she had a painful leg. He mentioned her dementia but downplayed her condition. When he called again in March 2019, he suspected a broken leg and mentioned pressure sores he was treating.
When paramedics arrived, they found Lilian in a shocking state. She was on a dirty mattress, and her hygiene was severely lacking. Medical staff were alarmed by her condition and contacted the police.
Despite efforts to save her, Lilian died two days later. Graham initially pleaded not guilty to charges of neglect but later changed his plea to guilty. He is set to be sentenced soon.
The prosecutor expressed deep concern over the neglect Lilian faced, highlighting the lack of care and compassion from her son during her final days.
