Dearest gentle reader, it is I, Lady Whistledown, here to share that season 4 of the beloved regency drama Bridgerton is officially in production. To celebrate this joyous news, I have decided to uncover every scandalous little detail about the upcoming season, including how Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) really feels about becoming the show’s latest star. Read on for more.
‘Bridgerton’ season 4 plot & production updates
Bridgerton season 4 is set to follow Benedict Bridgerton (Thompson) after he meets the love of his life at a masquerade ball and soon embarks on a journey to discover who she is.

“What’s striking about season 4 is that it’s the struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale —the romance of it—and the actual reality of the world,” Thompson told Tudum by Netflix. “I get really excited by how many unexpected twists you’ll get in season 4. A big one I’m sure I can mention is this one masquerade ball.”
Fans of the show will remember that in prior seasons, Benedict was involved in a couple of high-profile relationships with people like The Ton’s modiste Genevieve Delacroix (Kathryn Drysdale) and Lady Tilley Arnold (Hannah New), but none of them seem to hold a candle to his newest prospect, Sophie Beckett (Yerin Ha).
“What drew me to Sophie was that she immediately has obstacles—something that she constantly has to overcome,” Ha told Tudum. “Whether it’s this battle around social status or trying to hide her feelings from Benedict.”

The plot of season 4 comes from book three in Julia Quinn’s bestselling historical romance Bridgerton series, titled An Offer from a Gentleman, and is a retelling of the beloved fairytale Cinderella. It is unclear how similar the two will be or what the other cast members’ plot lines will be as of publication.

‘Bridgerton’ season 4 cast: Who’s returning and who’s new?
There are going to be several familiar and unfamiliar faces in The Ton this season.
From the Bridgertons—aside from Benedict—we can expect to see Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), Kate (Simone Ashley), Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), Violet (Ruth Gemmell), Hyacinth (Florence Hunt), Eloise (Claudia Jessie), Gregory (Will Tilston) and Colin (Luke Newton). Francesca Stirling—formerly Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd)—and her husband John (Victor Alli) and his companion Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza) are also set to appear, as is Kate and Anthony’s new child.
Sadly, though, not all the Bridgertons are returning. The Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page), and Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) will not be returning despite being the show’s breakout stars in season 1.

Also returning to The Ton are Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh), Lord Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis), Will Mondrich (Martins Imhangbe), Alice Mondrich (Emma Naomi), Portia Featherington (Polly Walker), Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) and Brimsley (Hugh Sachs).
Julie Andrews is also set to return as the voice of Lady Whistledown.
There will be some new faces, too, this season. Aside from Ha, Katie Leung, Michelle Mao and Isabella Wei will also be joining The Ton. Leung will play Lady Araminta Gun, a twice-widowed woman who has two girls entering the marriage mart; Mao is going to be bringing Rosamund Li, a vain girl who is determined to marry Benedict, and Wei is all set to star as Posy Li, Araminta’s youngest daughter who is the kindest and most overlooked child of them all.

These three will also serve as Sophie’s “family” and fulfill the role of the “evil stepmother and stepsisters.”
It is unclear at this time how many episodes the newcomers will appear in or if their roles will extend into potential future seasons.
