Carice van Houten, recognized for her portrayal of Melisandre, the “Red Woman,” in ‘Game of Thrones,’ has announced that her relationship with Guy Pearce has ended.
On January 22, the actress provided an update regarding their personal circumstances via her Instagram Story, indicating that the couple had been separated for a considerable period. This announcement followed Pearce’s remarks in a recent interview, in which he referred to his ex-wife, Kate Mestitz, as the greatest love of his life.

Van Houten noted that she generally prefers to keep her private life away from public scrutiny, but felt compelled to address the situation due to media speculation surrounding her relationship with Pearce. She stated, “We’re great friends and love each other very much, but we haven’t been a ‘couple’ for years.” Additionally, she expressed regret for not disclosing this information earlier.
The former partners, who initially met in 2015, have an eight-year-old son named Monte, born in 2016. Van Houten highlighted their effective co-parenting arrangement and their commitment to raising their child together. “We are in a wonderful partnership raising the true love of our lives—our beautiful son,” she remarked, humorously adding, “and his hamster.”
While the exact timing of their separation is uncertain, van Houten’s statement followed Pearce’s comments to ‘The Guardian,’ where he reflected on his previous marriage to Mestitz. Pearce acknowledged feeling devastated by the errors he made during their marriage but now finds his greatest love in his child. Pearce and Mestitz were married for 18 years before their divorce in 2015.

Van Houten and Pearce began their relationship shortly after his divorce, welcoming their son in 2016. Despite their separation, both remain close and dedicated to co-parenting their son.
