Shortly after her participation in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, reports emerged indicating that Maura Higgins was poised to assume the role of host for the UK’s Love Island.
A source from a tabloid suggested that Maya Jama was preparing to exit the show; however, she promptly refuted these claims via her Instagram story, stating:
“I will be hosting Love Island next year & have no plans to leave right now. Filmed the promo a couple of days ago actually. Fake news is fake news-ing as usual.”
Maura, who previously hosted Love Island: Aftersun in the United States, also addressed the rumors, expressing her gratitude for the attention. In an exclusive interview with Capital, she remarked,
“What a massive compliment! Maya is just incredible, and I am very flattered that people think I could even take over from her.”
She continued, “She is excelling in her role, and I genuinely believe she is in it for the long haul. She is such a queen and excels at her job.”
As Maura increasingly engages in hosting opportunities, she acknowledged Maya’s influence on her career aspirations.
“I truly look up to her and hope to become a credible host like her one day,” she stated.
While Maura does not currently aspire to host the UK’s Love Island, she did express her hope to return as the host of Aftersun for the U.S. version next year.
Prior to Maura’s comments, a tabloid source noted,
“She has been honing her skills as a presenter and is very much part of the Love Island family. She also brings the unique perspective of having been a contestant herself.”
However, it is clear that Maya remains the host of Love Island, not only due to Maura’s remarks but also because ITV has announced the start date for Love Island All Stars, featuring an invitation signed by Maya herself.
The invitation stated: “As dating royalty, you are cordially invited back to the villa as a Love Island All Star. 13th January at 9pm. Dress to impress.”
