Season 3 of Euphoria is officially in production, HBO confirmed in an Instagram post. This comes after the entire cast and crew took a three-year break from filming because of the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strike, busy filming schedules, the death of Angus Cloud and reports of a toxic work environment. Below, we have the details on what you can expect from season 3, including which cast members will be returning and what the plot will reportedly be about.
‘Euphoria’ season 3: everything we know so far
Euphoria season 3 has been in pre-production since July 2024, when the series posted that it “will go into production in January 2025” on Instagram.
Then, in February 2025, they once again took to the Meta-owned social media site to share a picture of Emmy-winning star and executive producer Zendaya on set, confirming that they were currently filming the highly anticipated season.
“I know the show gets a lot of attention now because, you know, it has created some genuine movie stars, and they have various projects that are working on, but we are shooting this season, so nothing has changed,” Casey Bloys from HBO/Max said in November. “It’s eight episodes.”
“I have read the scripts. We’re happy. We’re moving ahead.”
Fans of the show will remember that at the end of season 2, we see Rue Bennett (Zendaya) leaving an auditorium after watching Lexi Howard’s (Maude Apatow) play, which led to Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney) and Maddy Perez (Alexa Demie) fighting over Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi). Elsewhere, Fezco (Angus Cloud) was arrested, and his brother Ashtray (Javon Walton) was shot and is believed to be dead.
It was quite the cliffhanger for sure, and people were anxiously awaiting season 3 to see what was going to happen next.
It turns out that they might have to wait a little longer, though, because, in past interviews, creator Sam Levinson said that he wants season 3 to begin with a five-year time jump.
Zendaya then confirmed that it was happening, saying, “I don’t quite know exactly what the season is going to look like, but I do know that the time jump is happening.”
“It will be fascinating to see and understand these characters outside of the context of high school and how all the stuff that we saw when they were kids, and they were in high school affects the adulthood they have and who they become in a much bigger world. I’ll be interested to see what happens, too.”
When is ‘Euphoria’ season 3 coming out?
As of publication, season 3 is expected to release at some point in 2026.
‘Euphoria’ season 3 cast: who’s returning & who’s not?

Aside from Zendaya (who plays Rue), Hunter Schafer (Jules Vaughn), Demie, Apatow, Elordi, Colman Domingo (Ali Muhammed), Nika King (Leslie Bennett), Dominic Fike (Elliot), Eric Dane (Cal Jacobs)and Sweeney from the principal cast are rumored to be returning for Euphoria season 3.
“We did have a long time between season 1 and season 2, but especially now with the time jump, it’s a new process for me,” Sweeney said in August 2024. “I’m kind of just learning as I go and being open for whatever’s to come. But I’m also really excited—I love Cassie. She is always such a thrilling character to play, so I’m really looking forward to what’s gonna happen in her life.”
Sadly, though, Barbie Ferreira (who plays Kat Hernandez) and Storm Reid (who plays Gia Bennett) have both announced their departure from the show.

“I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go,” Ferreira explained. “I think there were places she could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show. I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that. I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either.”
Also not returning is Cloud, who tragically died in July 2023 from a drug overdose. He was 25.
Sam Levinson & ‘Euphoria’ season 3: controversies & support
After season 2 came out, there was a lot of online speculation about Levinson creating a toxic work environment on set. None of the show’s stars confirmed these rumors, but several of them did step up and support him.
“The reality is that in the television space, we usually shoot 12- to 16-hour days. That’s just the norm across the board, and I’ve never had one problem,” Domingo said. “I don’t know where these words are coming from, but I think that with anything good, you’re always going to get some backlash, and so you have to be prepared for it.”

Elordi also commented on Levinson’s leadership, saying, “For me, working on that set is an absolute treat.”
“When I’m working with Sam, I’m in the trenches with him, and I trust him, and I work myself to the bone for him. I think I’ve read people saying, ‘Look, that’s a bad image to set, you shouldn’t have to work yourself to the bone for art.’ F*ck that. I enjoy it.”
Levinson is set to be heavily involved with season 3 and will most likely write and direct several of the episodes as he has done in the past.
