Jewish journalism professor finds swastika and eerie graffiti saying ‘we are everywhere’ on poster promoting a drag show plastered to her office door

  • A Jewish professor at the University of Delaware found a swastika on her door
  • Journalism professor Dawn Fallik had just organized a drag show on campus
  • ‘We are everywhere’ the threatening note from an unidentified person read

A Jewish professor at the University of Delaware received a ‘threatening message’ that included a swastika drawn on the back of a poster for a drag show she organized.

Journalism Professor Dawn Fallik found the symbol of hate along with the message ‘We Are Everywhere’ on the back of a poster for a ‘Martha Graham Cracker’ performance, according to Delaware Online

Fallik told the local outlet she believes she was the intended target of the note and that no suspect nor motive has been discovered.

She offered that she had just completed a unit on ‘how the media covers race and marginalized communities’ and that she had mentioned her own religion.

According to reports, Fallik’s office is located in Memorial Hall.

The journalism professor noted that the hallway where her office is does have other other Jewish professors nearby.

Fallik said the others ‘didn’t receive any hateful messages.’

Despite her having just recently mentioned her own faith in a lecture, she claimed she has ‘no reason to suspect any of her students.’

The professor who has worked at the school since 2007 told the Delaware Online she believes anyone could have been ‘listening in’ to her classes as they had been held virtually.

Whoever defaced the poster had an abundance of opportunity, Fallik said, as the hallway doesn’t have a security camera.

She also said the corridor is empty ’95 percent of the time.’

After the defacement, faculty in the school’s English department put up fliers in the hallways to remind students that all are welcome.

‘All faiths, sexualities, genders, modes of self-expression, races, abilities are welcome here,’ a poster reads.

In a statement released after the incident, University of Delaware’s President said he is ‘appalled and deeply disturbed’ by the threat.

‘On behalf of the entire University, we unequivocally denounce this incident, which is in direct opposition to our institutional values supporting diversity, equity and inclusion,’ President Dennis Assanis wrote

‘At UD, people of all faiths, ethnicities, race, genders and sexualities are welcome, and every member of our community must be free to teach, work, learn and live on our campus while having all aspects of their identity respected,’ he said.

The professor said she is now trying to move on from and focus on the good she has done, rather than one person or party’s ‘hateful’ actions.

‘College is where you come to meet people who are not like you and change those ideas,’ Fallik told local outlets.

‘But I guess you just have to keep teaching because for every person who wants to hate, I have taught thousands of students who have learned to see the world in a different way and be curious about different people,’ she said.
