Delivery driver and first aider Tiff Smith, 30, had been picking up orders at a Chinese restaurant on Rainham High Street in Kent on Tuesday night when a motorbike collided with a car nearby, leaving a 17-year-old seriously injured.

She rushed to the scene and was able to keep the injured teen’s airways open and perform compressions, before paramedics arrived and he was flown to a hospital in London.

Tiff described how she was about to drive away from the restaurant when she heard the crash.

She told Kent Online: ‘I just ran from my car and was the first to get to him.

On Facebook she wrote: ‘A night I will never, ever forget

‘So grateful for my St Johns Ambulance training.. used to be embarrassed going to cadets when I was a teenager but now I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that more youngsters know basic first aid. I am not embarrassed, I am proud.’

Tiff said that she doesn’t think the motorbike rider would be here today if it wasn’t for her training.

She said she is going to set up a petition to call for First Aid Training to be added to the school curriculum.

She continued: ‘I don’t understand why it isn’t already. Literally life saving knowledge and so many are unaware.

‘Imagine you’re walking down the street and someone collapses or you witness a biker smash into a car.. what are you going to do, if you don’t even know the basics. It’s a scary world and after the trauma of last night I need to try to make a change!!
