Disgusting condition a public park barbecue is left in sparks outrage at the ‘un-Australian’ act: ‘Looks like a crime scene’

  • Condition public barbeque left in sparks outrage online
  • The public amenity in Brisbane left with burnt-on food

The terrible condition a barbeque has been left in at a public park has sparked outrage online as Aussies debate public amenity etiquette.

A gross picture of the filthy barbeque at the family-friendly Frew Park in Brisbane was shared to Reddit this week.

User legitimate_street250 shared the photo captioned: ‘Seriously? Feel like I stumbled across a crime scene.’

It showed two hotplates covered in burnt-on food, and the bench area left a mess of scraps, plastics and even used utensils on the public barbeque.

The image was met with an angry response as users called the act ‘un-Australian’ and showing a complete disregard for others.

‘Public service announcement: if you’re going to use public utilities such as this leave it the way you found it or in better condition than you found it… please have some decency this is just un-Australian,’ one person wrote.

‘I used to teach ESL in Brisbane and sometimes we would go as a school or class to have a barbecue in the park,’ a second said.

‘I made it clear that it was Australian etiquette to clean public barbecues after use and man they took it seriously… left it better than how we found it.’

‘How gross are these people?’ another exclaimed, and ‘This is why we can’t have nice things’.

Local councils clean barbeques regularly but it is widely understood it is the visitors’ responsibility to clean up after they are done using it.

Brisbane City Council is responsible for 420 parks with public barbeques but Redditors unanimously agreed it is the user’s responsibility to leave the amenities clean after use.
