Walmart is axing 2,000 warehouse jobs weeks after retail chain announced store closures across the country

Walmart Inc will cut more than 2,000 jobs at five U.S. e-commerce warehouses, the company reported on Monday.
The layoffs include more than 1,000 roles at a warehouse in Fort Worth, Texas, along with 600 jobs at a Pennsylvania fulfillment center, 400 in Florida and 200 in New Jersey, the report said citing regulatory filings, with additional reductions planned in California.
On March 23, hundreds of workers at five Walmart facilities that fulfill e-commerce orders were being asked to find jobs within 90 days at other company locations.
It follows from the news that the iconic retailer is shuttering five big box stores and its last two remaining pickup-only locations, citing poor revenue.
The store routinely closes a handful of stores across the nation every year, with this year’s states to be hit selected as Illinois, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Florida and Arkansas, with an announced total of 12 stores across nine states.

In February, Mail Online reported on a retail apocalypse across the States, in which over 800 stores are set to shutter down across the nation this year.

Aside from Walmart, other brands shutting locations include Bed, Bath and Beyond, Gap and Party City.
Many have been forced into rampant cost-cutting measures amid severe inflation.
Topping the list of brands to close down their stores is houseware giant Bed Bath & Beyond.
The retailer once owned more than 1,500 stores across America, but a recent purge has seen it aim to end the year at just 480.
At least 416 of its US stores have been identified for closure, while every one of its 65 stores in Canada are also set to be shut down.
Despite owning 953 locations across North America just a year ago, by the end of 2023 there will be only 360 flagship Bed Bath & Beyond stores in America alongside 120 Buybuy Baby locations.
In March, it was announced that Foot Locker would be the latest US chain to close its stores across the nation.
The company is set to shut more than 400 of its under-performing stores by 2026.
The 420 stores that have been planned to close account for almost 10 per cent of Foot Locker’s total sales.
Burger King is another major chain expected to close all 26 of its Michigan locations and lay off 424 members of staff.
At the end of last year, analysis showed American households were could expect to splash out an additional $433 per month than in 2021 as prices rose.
