Two German Tourists Convicted Over Fatal Lake Garda Boat Crash

Two German tourists who caused a boat crash that killed a 14-year-old Italian boy have been convicted of the incident.

The pair were racing their boats at speeds of up to 80km/h on Lake Garda in Italy when they collided with another vessel, killing the young man. They were found guilty of involuntary manslaughter by an Italian court after being accused of speeding dangerously without lights or sirens on at night and against each other.

Christian Teismann was the owner of the boat, which had a history of mechanical problems. He was also a German national and resident of Germany.

The trial judge found that Christian Teismann was not in control at any time during the incident, but he did not find fault with his decision to drive his boat onto land because there were no other ways available to him at that time.

The 14-year-old boy who died was one of two people on board a boat that was struck by Patrick K’s motorboat, which was traveling at twice the speed limit at the time of impact.

The case has highlighted the dangers of speeding around Italy’s largest lake during one of its busiest summers ever.

The lake is a popular tourist destination and a major draw for Germans, who make up the largest group of visitors in Lake Garda’s tourist season. But while some say they have never seen it as busy as this year, others are concerned that such high volumes could have an impact on safety measures at key points along its shoreline.

Victim Family

The families involved in this tragic accident, said an Italian prosecutor, Francesco De Angelis. “We hope that these convictions will serve as an example for everyone who uses this lake.”
