There’s a lot of positives you can take from Chelsea’s surprise win over Aston Villa last night, including the real statement that Axel Disasi put out with his individual performance.

Of course, Blues supporters won’t get carried away by one fantastic team display. They dispatched Villa with real authority during the 3-1 away victory in the FA Cup fourth round replay.

However, perhaps it’s not all doom and gloom yet for Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Axel Disasi delivered a timely reminder to everyone what he can offer this Chelsea team.

With veteran defender Thiago Silva on the bench against Villa, it was a great chance for some centre-halves to show they can be the answer for the Blues in the immediate future.

We think Disasi proved a point in emphatic style with a very polished display in the FA Cup.

The £39 million player (Sky Sports) should be overjoyed by his best performance in a Chelsea shirt so far…

Disasi, alongside Benoit Badiashile as the centre-back partnership, looked the part at Villa Park.

Disasi certainly passed the eye test for 90 minutes with a real authorative performance in the Chelsea defence.

The 25-year-old Frenchman made a couple of great blocks, including a goal-bound shot from John McGinn. Also, he made key tackles and interceptions to really keep outstanding Villa frontman Ollie Watkins pretty quiet.

It was his best display in Chelsea colours since his arrival last summer from Monaco, proving his future is at centre-back rather than the right-back position he’s covered in sparingly.

Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino has taken a liking to Disasi by making him one of the few nailed-on starters this campaign.

It feels like the jury has been out on him because of inconsistent performances this season, but we think he’ll have swayed a few doubters this week!

Speaking via BBC Radio 5 Live last night, Dion Dublin praised the combination of Disasi and Badiashile as the central defenders. We’d like to see more of the French pairing together in the coming months.
