All of Chelsea’s South American representatives were in action against each other at the Copa America last night.

After a fierce battle, it was Enzo Fernandez’s Argentina side who came out on top against Ecuador on penalties.

The result sees the end of Moises Caicedo and Kendry Paez at the tournament, with both players more than making their impact in their run.

The former’s passion boiled over recently when he had a confrontation with one of his own teammates.

This time though, he was individually gutted with what happened, losing in heartbreaking fashion on penalties.

Mac Allister gutted for Caicedo

Former club teammate Alexis Mac Allister told El Futbolero after the game that he was gutted to see Caicedo clearly emotional after the game.

He said: “They have a great team with great players and today, especially in the second half, they did well. There are always battles on the field, but afterwards everything was fine.

“It makes me sad that a great player ended up sad (Moisés Caicedo) showing that he gave everything on the field.”

Caicedo is set to play a big part in next season’s plans at Stamford Bridge under new manager Enzo Maresca next season.

Big plan for Enzo Fernandez next season

It remains to be seen if that partnership is with Fernandez. It has been claimed that the new boss has big plans for the World Cup winner when he takes over.

However, it is fair to say that Caicedo played his best football when he was joined in the middle of the park by Conor Gallagher, whose future is not secure at this stage.

There will be plenty of competition for places in this role too, with Romeo Lavia and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also looking to be named in the starting side for the opening game against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge next season.
