With Thiago Silva set to depart Chelsea at the end of the season, it is a shame that the club are no longer in possession of Fikayo Tomori.

Thiago Silva‘s contract expires in the summer and Chelsea are now being linked with several potential replacements.

Lille’s Leny Yoro, for example, is one central defender the Blues are thought to be interested in.

At AC Milan, Fikayo Tomori has developed into quite a centre-half. He easily could have slotted into this Chelsea team in place of Silva.

However, there are others still at Stamford Bridge who have the potential to. One has actually been linked with a move to Milan, and Chelsea could end up making the same mistake they made with Tomori if they allow him to go.

Fikayo Tomori one of the best defenders in Serie A

Tomori has really improved as a defender since joining Milan and is now one of the standout centre-backs in Serie A.

As per FBref, the 26-year-old has ranked in the 85th percentile for tackles and the 90th for blocks among his positional peers over the past 12 months.

If the previous regime at Chelsea was still in place, there surely would have been some regret over selling Tomori as the club now look to replace Silva.

However, the new set-up at Chelsea can learn from their predecessors’ mistake by not selling Benoit Badiashile, who is reportedly attracting interest from Milan.

Chelsea should not sell Benoit Badiashile to AC Milan

Badiashile has had quite a few injury problems at Chelsea since arriving from AS Monaco in a £35m deal.

However, even when the 23-year-old has been fit, he has not always started for the Blues.

Nevertheless, it has been claimed that Badiashile is still happy at Stamford Bridge and wants to remain there.

With Silva expected to move on this summer, Chelsea should give his team-mate what he wants.

The France international looks like a good fit for the Premier League. His average of 3.2 aerial duels won per game last season, the highest in Chelsea’s squad (WhoScored), shows that he can be dominant in a very physical division.
