As things stand, it looks like Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling will go into the new season as Chelsea’s two main options for the left wing.

That was the case last term and with Chelsea having failed to sign a new winger in the transfer window so far, nothing may change in the 2024/25 campaign.

It would be good news for Mykhailo Mudryk, who would get another season without too much competition.

If that happens and the 23-year-old does get regular game time under Enzo Maresca, then he has to perform. If not, then Chelsea really should consider making one wide man their top priority in 2025.

Big season for Mykhailo Mudryk

This will be Mudryk’s second full campaign as a Chelsea player, with his first not exactly going to plan.

The Ukrainian found himself in and out of the team last term, making 18 starts and 13 substitute appearances in the Premier League.

Across those games, Mudryk scored five goals and provided two assists, which is hardly amazing for an £89m attacker.

He is still only 23, though, while former Arsenal star Nicolas Pepe thinks people are too harsh on Mudryk.

However, should he not pick up or if Sterling is moved on, then Chelsea should consider going all out for Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.

Chelsea should consider making Nico Williams a top target next summer

Williams has actually been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer, though Barcelona were always thought to be the ones who were winning the race for his signature.

According to The Athletic, though, Williams will not be joining Barcelona in this transfer window despite having a £47m release clause in his contract.

That is good news for Chelsea, who may be able to bring him to Stamford Bridge next summer if they do find themselves in a position where they need to sign a new left winger.

At the Euros, he was easily one of the best wide men in the competition. In six games, he scored two goals, provided one assist and had an average of 2.2 for both key passes and dribbles per match, according to WhoScored.

All in all, Williams is a skilful winger who can produce in the final third. If the time to upgrade on Mudryk or replace Sterling comes, then the Spain international is the wide man who Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital should try to purchase.
