England play Switzerland on Saturday evening at Euro 2024, but will there be any Chelsea players on the pitch?

Blues stars Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher are both in contention to play for England, but it may be a surprise to see either start the game.

The Sun has reported what’s likely to be the Three Lions starting line-up this weekend in the quarter-final clash against Switzerland. Unfortunately, Chelsea’s duo are set to be on the bench again at this tournament.

Palmer, 22, made a positive impact as a substitute in England’s previous two games at the Euros.

If international manager Gareth Southgate needs a game-changer off the bench, he’s got serious firepower with the Chelsea talisman.

Danny Murphy insists Cole Palmer must start for England on Saturday

TalkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy claims that Palmer should definitely be promoted into England’s XI this weekend.

He’s not started a single match yet at Euro 2024, but he’s gone into this summer fresh off a remarkable debut season in Chelsea colours.

Murphy told talkSPORT (10:40am, 5 July): “I hope to God Palmer starts [against Switzerland].

“That would be the only one I would say for sure who has got to play because every time he comes on the pitch, he just looks so comfortable.

“He is a special talent, and he plays free.”

Gareth Southgate should speak with Chelsea fans

Of course, it’s not easy for any England manager to pick a team. They’re likely to be under real scrutiny regardless.

However, it does seem baffling that Palmer can’t get into the XI, even when he’s impacting matches off the bench.

We think if you ask any Chelsea supporter about Palmer they’ll tell you he’s a mega star.

Based off the 2023/24 campaign, Palmer simply should be playing more at this Euros tournament.

This is an attacker that finished last season with 40 direct goal contributions (25 goals, 15 assists) in 45 Chelsea appearances across all competitions.
