Danny Murphy claims that Premier League side Aston Villa will be doing a great piece of business if they sign their transfer target from Chelsea this summer.

There’s so many former Chelsea players across the Premier League enjoying themselves post-Stamford Bridge. For example, Kai Havertz and Callum Hudson-Odoi were excellent last season after being sold by the Blues in the summer of 2023.

So, could a Chelsea player be heading to Villa Park this summer?

Danny Murphy says Chelsea player would be amazing for Aston Villa

TalkSPORT pundit Danny Murphy thinks Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher would be a superb signing for Villa this summer.

The 24-year-old Blues midfielder is linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

It’s heavily claimed in the media that Unai Emery’s Villa side want to sign the Chelsea and England man.

When asked if Gallagher would be a good signing for Villa at £50m, Murphy told talkSPORT: “I think it would be a brilliant signing. I think he’d be good value.

“I have been a little bit critical of his end product and creative skills as a midfielder playing in that 10 role a couple of times. His strengths aren’t really that. Now he can arrive in the box and get the odd goal, he’s proved that this season. When you play in that position you should… He ended up dropping in and playing alongside [Moises] Caicedo. He’s been absolutely terrific.

“When you look at some of the amounts that have been paid for players, £50m for Conor Gallagher… Super athlete, always fit, you know what you get. He can play different positions if you need, although that central midfield position is his better one. I think it’s an upgrade on what Villa have got. He’d be playing Champions League football. I think the fans would love him. I think it would be, for Villa, really good value.”

The Daily Mail claims that Chelsea want a minimum of £50m for Gallagher in the summer window. Apparently, Tottenham are preparing to make an offer for the central midfielder, but there’s rival interest from Villa and Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, BBC Sport reported that Villa have already expressed an interest in signing Blues star Gallagher.

The Chelsea Chronicle agrees that Gallagher and Villa would be a perfect match.

If the Blues aren’t prepared to change their minds to keep him, perhaps he should actively chase a move to Emery’s side while the interest is there.
