Chelsea youngster David Datro Fofana continued his excellent spell at Burnley by scoring over the weekend.
David Datro Fofana, who’s just 21, made a short-term loan move in January to Burnley for the rest of the season. This came after a quiet stint on loan at German club Union Berlin during the first half of the campaign.
The young striker’s now got four goals in eight Premier League games since his move to Turf Moor, which included scoring in a 2-1 win over Brentford on Saturday.
Local media publication The Burnley Express awarded Fofana an 8/10 match rating for his latest eye-catching performance.
Chelsea fans are now seeing Nicolas Jackson come into some goalscoring form for them this year, but perhaps his main competition for next season is now scoring goals at a top-flight rival.
When naming his latest Premier League Team of the Week, pundit Alan Shearer was impressed enough by Fofana to include him.
The 21-year-old centre-forward did miss two big chances to score, including one open goal from a close distance, but he persevered and netted with a delicate chipped finish over the goalkeeper.

Shearer wrote via the Premier League’s official website: “David Datro Fofana (Burnley). Despite missing a couple of big chances, he kept looking for the next one and took his goal really well.”
Chelsea fans watch out for David Datro Fofana
Like so many of Chelsea’s signings in the last couple of years, Fofana is a young talent filled with both potential and rawness.
The fact is every youngster will progress at their own speed, though.
Chelsea signed Fofana in the January window of 2023 from Norwegian side Molde in a deal worth between £8m-£10m (BBC).
It’s no real surprise that the Blues decided the Ivory Coast youngster needed time away from west London to develop his game, but the last two months at Burnley is proving he’s already got the quality to make an impact and score goals in the Premier League.
Speaking via Liverpool’s official website last month, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp did namecheck Fofana as a goalscoring threat for Burnley. It must be great for any youngster to hear a legendary coach speak so positively about you.
Our message to Fofana is Chelsea’s first team may be closer than he thinks if he keeps his head down and finishes this season strongly in Burnley colours.
