Chelsea are reportedly still in discussions with an overseas club about signing their striker, but any kind of transfer isn’t deemed close at this stage.

Chelsea have a number of different options in their current squad that can play as a No 9. However, the Blues are still linked with several different potential targets in the transfer rumour mill.

Nicolas Jackson, Armando Broja, and Marc Guiu are the main centre-forwards on Chelsea’s pre-season tour. Christopher Nkunku also has the versatility to lead the line, but he’s scored three goals in three friendlies games as an advanced midfielder.

Napoli frontman Victor Osimhen, 25, is one individual strongly linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge in recent days. It’s been reported by Gazzetta that Napoli want a minimum of £84m for Osimhen.

Now, fresh reports suggest that Enzo Maresca’s side are currently in conversations with someone else about a different attacking target.

Chelsea still in talks for Samu Omorodion

According to GiveMeSport on Thursday, Chelsea are currently in discussions with Atletico Madrid about possibly signing their youngster Samu Omorodion.

It is understood that the Spanish La Liga club want their 20-year-old striker to sign a new deal with them and commit his future. Chelsea are in conversations with Atletico about the young talent but nothing is imminent, though.

The report says that Omorodion’s current focus is on this summer’s Olympic Games, where he’s competing with Spain.

He spent last season out on loan at Spanish top-flight rivals Alaves, scoring eight goals in 35 appearances. The powerful 6ft 4in forward already possesses a huge presence for such a young forward and you can see why he’s in Atletico’s plans.

How much will Samu Omorodion cost?

There’s been various reports in the media regarding Atletico talent Omorodion, but the overriding suggestion is that he’ll cost a fortune.

Mundo Deportivo claimed last month that Atletico will demand at least €70m (£59m) for Omorodion. On paper, that does feel like a lot of money for a Spanish youngster that’s only had one season in La Liga so far.

Unless Chelsea bring in a proven goalscorer with serious pedigree, the club should stick with what they’ve currently got for the new campaign.
