One Chelsea player is keen to sit down for talks with Enzo Maresca and receive assurances about his starting position next season.

There’s a blank canvas for Chelsea’s stars this summer due to yet another managerial change at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Maresca, 44, is the newly-appointed Blues head coach, signing a five-year deal.

During just one year as Leicester City boss, Maresca implemented a clear possession-based style of football and led his side to promotion from the Championship. But what sort of impact can he make in the top division in the Chelsea dressing room?

Chelsea player will soon chat with Enzo Maresca

90min claims that Chelsea defender Levi Colwill is seeking assurances from the club’s new head coach that he’ll be a starter next season.

It is understood that the 21-year-old centre-half is set for talks soon with Maresca.

The report says that the left-footer wants to know if he’ll be the number one choice for the left-sided centre-back position next season.

Apparently, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are both monitoring Colwill, but neither think it’s possible to sign him this summer as Chelsea won’t sell their highly-rated English youngster.

Speaking via Sky Sports Premier League last season, Jamie Redknapp said that Colwill’s passing is “exceptional” for a defender.

Levi Colwill has to earn his starting role

The Chelsea Chronicle would put Colwill into the club’s best XI and build the defence around him for the future.

However, he should want to prove his quality on the pitch with his feet rather than look for guarantees from the new manager.

Colwill’s 2023/24 season was a big step in the right direction, playing 32 matches across all competitions. Let’s remember it was his first year with the senior group at Stamford Bridge.

He covered well at left-back under Mauricio Pochettino, but his long-term future must be as a central defender.

There’s a lot to come from the talented academy graduate!
