Former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino reportedly turned down the chance to sign one player from Barcelona last summer.

Mauricio Pochettino recently left Chelsea by mutual consent after just one season at the club.

Since then, a lot has come out about the Argentine and his relationship with the higher-ups at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have wasted no time looking for a new manager.

It has been claimed that Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca is the leading candidate to replace Pochettino in west London.

Mauricio Pochettino made his feelings clear about one player Chelsea could have signed

According to The Athletic, senior figures at Chelsea are insisting that there was collaboration with Pochettino when it came to recruitment, with Ansu Fati being used as an example.

Chelsea were offered the chance to sign the winger from Barcelona last summer, but Pochettino told the club that he did not want him.

Fati eventually went on to join Brighton & Hove Albion, while Chelsea were still able to strengthen their attack.

The Blues, of course, managed to sign Cole Palmer just before the transfer window closed.

Mauricio Pochettino made the right call not signing Ansu Fati

Fati is obviously a player with a lot of ability. In the past, he has been described as an “incredible talent” by Ivan Rakitic.

However, Fati has not been able to fulfil his potential yet, largely because of injury.

At Brighton, he was not able to make much of an impact, scoring just two goals in 19 Premier League games.

Ultimately, he probably would not have helped Chelsea to qualify for the Champions League.

With all of that being said, the Spain international is still just 21 years of age. There is still time for him to fulfil his potential, whether that is at Barcelona or somewhere else.

Based on how his season at the Amex Stadium went, though, Pochettino made the right decision not bringing the attacker to Stamford Bridge in the last summer transfer window.
