Chelsea have reportedly drawn up a shortlist of potential replacements for Thiago Silva.

Thiago Silva has been a key player for Chelsea this season, making 27 appearances and scoring three goals, but his contract is up in the summer.

According to CaughtOffside, the Blues could now replace the central defender with Lille’s Leny Yoro.

The same outlet claims that Chelsea also have Ousmane Diomande, Piero Hincapie and Jean-Clair Todibo on their shortlist, while both Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are better positioned to sign Yoro than the English club.

It means there is no guarantee that Chelsea are going to land the 18-year-old in the summer.

However, it looks like they are planning for life after Silva.

Is Leny Yoro really the right player to replace Thiago Silva?

It would be some gamble to bring Yoro in and tell him to fill the hole that Silva has left.

The Brazilian is Chelsea’s most experienced player and has been an important figure for them this term. Yoro, on the other hand, is a teenager who has not kicked a ball in the Premier League before.

Surely Chelsea have to go for someone who is a bit more seasoned, especially considering how young their squad already is.

Silva has been in the headlines after a post from his wife on social media appeared to call for Mauricio Pochettino to be sacked.

She has since apologised for it, but there are probably plenty of Chelsea supporters who agree with the sentiment.

Pochettino has performed poorly as Blues manager this season, with his side currently sitting 11th in the Premier League table. It is extremely disappointing given all of the investment at Stamford Bridge in the last few transfer windows.

If the Argentine gets to the next campaign, he obviously has to do much better.
