Despite being early into his coaching career, Enzo Maresca has already got experience working alongside one of the best in the game.

During his time at Manchester City, the Italian worked closely with Pep Guardiola before he went off on his own as a manager at other clubs.

Maresca secured promotion back to the Premier League with Leicester City at the first time of asking, but was soon the man chosen by Chelsea to replace Mauricio Pochettino.

His limited time as a head coach has left some wondering what exactly he is going to bring to Stamford Bridge, however the fact he has been offered a long-term contract suggests there is confidence he can take this project into the future.

One feature of his game has proven to be inverting a full-back, which could be interesting if he decides this could be the best role for club captain Reece James.

Maresca introduced inverted full-back to Pep Guardiola

According to The Athletic, Maresca has been doing this for some time, actually introducing the concept during his time with the academy at City.

The report goes on to say that this was something which was noticed by Guardiola, who went on to implement it to much success with the first team.

Pochettino looked to bring this in late during last season, using Marc Cucurella to help out in the middle of the park.

This worked to great success, and saw the Spaniard put in some of his best performances since joining the club just under two years ago.

His turn in form was a real positive for his personal ambitions too, with him being included in the squad that Spain are taking to the European Championships this summer.

He is in the same group as Armando Broja’s Albania, potentially setting up a clash between two Chelsea players early in the tournament.
