Chelsea fans got to watch new signing Filip Jorgensen make his unofficial debut for the club this week just days after completing a move to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea recorded a 3-0 victory over Club America on Thursday in a pre-season friendly. It’s a fixture that Filip Jorgensen and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall won’t forget because they both made their first ever appearances for the Blues.

Jorgensen, 22, is a young goalkeeper who’s joined from Villarreal this week and will try to win the number one spot at Stamford Bridge. Speaking via Chelsea’s official website after signing, Jorgensen has praised teammate Robert Sanchez, who’s the individual he’ll compete with for the starting position in net.

He got his first runout in Chelsea colours by playing the second-half of the win against Club America.

Chelsea fans amazed by Filip Jorgensen pass

It was a fairly quiet and uneventful first 45 minutes for Jorgensen in a Chelsea jersey. He did at least show some decent passing, which is a big part of philosophy under the head coach.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media were particularly wowed by one long-range pass that the new keeper hit in the second-half. His pass upfield found Noni Madueke around the halfway line to set up a counter-attack, which was ultimately wasted by Armando Broja pulling his shot wide.

Here are some Blues fans on X waxing lyrical about Jorgensen’s long pass:

One fan said: “Unlucky Broja but the pass from Jorgensen, wow.”

Another wrote: “Jorgensen what was that pass?”

A third user posted: “The pass by Jorgensen into Madueke was sublime.”

A supporter claimed: “Jorgensen is definitely going to reduce our blood pressure. Man was very composed with his distribution. And that long pass to create that chance.”

Another shared: “Love that ball from Jorgensen. Already showing his ability to distribute from out of the back. Great cross field run from Madueke as well as the lay off.”

Can Chelsea finally find a long-term No 1?

Let’s hope Jorgensen turns out to be an inspired summer signing and the long-term answer for Chelsea in goal. The worry is that the club has really struggled to settle on one individual in-between the sticks for several years now.

Since Thibaut Courtois left Chelsea in 2018, there’s been a frequent turnover of goalkeepers. The likes of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Edouard Mendy, Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic have each had a crack as the first-choice keeper, but there’s been varied levels of success.

Ultimately, Chelsea need to find their permanent No 1 that they can rely on to build a trophy-winning team again.
