Chelsea legend and former manager Frank Lampard is no stranger to the situation the club find themselves in under the new ownership.

The Englishman was called in to try and steady the ship amid the turmoil that came at the back end of the 2022/23 campaign, however he soon found the job was going to be impossible at that time.

Since his time at the club, Mauricio Pochettino has come and gone, although Chelsea find themselves at last back in Europe after a season out.

They are set to go into the new campaign with Enzo Maresca in charge, and the length of contract they have given him suggests there is belief he is the man to lead the project into the future.

Lampard calls for time for Enzo Maresca

Lampard believes patience is an absolute necessity for the new coach if they are looking to close the gap on current title holders Manchester City.

He said to TalkSPORT: “It will be interesting to see because the levels where Manchester City have got to, obviously over a long period of time with great coaching and great players, and Arsenal now, great recruitment now and great coaching, giving the coach time and those things.

“That’s the difference. That’s where the club (Chelsea) really probably needs that little bit stability, and the players to develop and recruit the right way and close the gap.”

Chelsea are certainly going to need to make some signings this summer if they are to give Maresca the best possible platform to succeed.

It was confirmed by the club today that they had secured the addition of Tosin Aderabioyo on a free transfer after his time at Fulham came to an end.

An attacker is also reportedly high on the agenda at Stamford Bridge, with the likes of Benjamin Sesko being mentioned as a potential candidate if he decides to join them over Arsenal.
