Fulham captain Tom Cairney has just made a big claim about Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

From a Chelsea perspective, the 2023/24 season has belonged to Cole Palmer.

The young attacker, now 22, joined the Blues last summer in a £40m transfer (Sky Sports) from Manchester City. Remarkably, that’s now looking like a huge bargain less than a year later.

In 44 Chelsea appearances across all competitions, Palmer has scored 25 goals and made 14 assists.

Tom Cairney makes Cole Palmer claim

Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney has made the bold claim that Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has been the best player in the Premier League this season. It’s a huge compliment given the level of talent in the division this year, especially at title contenders Man City and Arsenal.

He’s still picking him as his Premier League Player of the Season after his massive impact at Stamford Bridge.

“I’m giving it Palmer. I think Palmer Signing of the Season and Player of the Season,” Cairney said on the BBC’s The Players Channel podcast.

“He gets bought for £40 million and he has put the team on his back, literally. Even early in the season with them big penalties, he said no give me the ball.

“…He’s been the star man. What he’s done in a Chelsea shirt is more impressive than what anyone else has done in my opinion.”

Will Chelsea talisman win individual prize?

Palmer was included on the eight-man shortlist for Premier League Player of the Season, but he faces very stiff competition to win it.

Here below are the eight nominees:

Palmer must be in with a fair shout after 22 league goals and 10 assists in the league. He’ll be hoping to add to it on the final day at home to Bournemouth, too.

The Chelsea Chronicle does expect the Chelsea star to just miss out on the vote to Phil Foden, though.
