Chelsea registered their first win of the summer earlier this week against Club America, with improvements clear to see from the players as a whole.

Goals from Christopher Nkunku, Marc Guiu and Noni Madueke saw the Blues run out 3-0 winners, with a number of individuals proving their worth.

One of those was summer signing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, who impressed greatly in what was his first appearance of any kind for the club.

Maresca’s training drills coming out in games

The attacking football was far more free-flowing from Chelsea, and it was no exaggeration to say that they could well have been up four or five nil at half-time.

There were a number of times a forward had run in behind the opposition defence, before performing a cutback to another player coming in to take a shot.

Journalist Kieran Gill has claimed that this has actually been the product of training under Enzo Maresca in the United States, with that drill being common in his sessions so far.

He said: “There’s one specific drill that Chelsea have practised repeatedly at both training sessions I’ve watched in USA.

“Involves them playing pass through opposition defence on to a runner who then cuts ball back. Seen the same move a few times here vs Club America.”

Nicolas Jackson has real chance to impress with new style of play

The fact that some of the stuff going on in the training sessions is being used to great effect on the pitch is a really promising sign for how the players are taking instructions on board from Maresca.

Guiu’s movement has been a real positive so far since his move from Barcelona, and even though he may not start the Premier League season, his replacement looks like he could be well-suited for this too.

Nicolas Jackson is pushing towards making his first appearance for the club of the summer, and his movement is something which Chelsea can certainly get the best out of if they continue to push with this style of attacking.
