Chelsea’s Malo Gusto has named the club teammate that has helped a lot this season by regularly chatting with him.

With the way that he performs on a football pitch, it’s quite easy to overlook the fact that Blues defender Malo Gusto is still only a youngster.

The 20-year-old right-back has acted mature beyond his years during a super impressive debut season at Stamford Bridge. He’s actually got nine assists in 36 appearances from full-back.

It’s good to hear from him that he’s had some big help off the pitch from one colleague.

Malo Gusto names Chelsea player as a big help

Interestingly, Gusto has shared that Chelsea’s Reece James is the teammate in the dressing room that he regularly listens to for advice.

The duo are competitors in the squad for the starting right-back position, but James has had an injury-hit season and played just 11 games. Also, he’s the club captain and has taken on a senior role at the club this campaign.

“This season was complicated for Reece but we are the team and we have to just stay behind him and keep pushing with him,” Gusto said via The Evening Standard.

“He is very important for the team. He helps us a lot. Especially me, we talk a lot. I am very happy to play with him at Chelsea.”

Is Reece James captain material?

When you hear stories of James helping out teammates during a year he’s had injuries himself to contend with, then you’d have to say he suits the captain’s armband.

On top of that, the England star developed in the Blues academy as a youngster and really epitomises what every Chelsea fan wants to see in their players.

Unfortunately, the 24-year-old may have just learned a valuable lesson that he’s still got some maturating to do if he wants to lead by example on the pitch.

James was sent off on Wednesday night for a petulant kick out at Joao Pedro in the league win over Brighton. As a result, he’ll miss the final day versus plus Bournemouth, plus the opening three matches of next season through injury.
