Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has just shared one of the main messages that Enzo Maresca said during his first meeting with the playing squad.

Enzo Maresca is preparing for his first season as a Premier League manager after being appointed Chelsea’s head coach, but he arrives in West London with a reputation and a football philosophy behind him.

Maresca, 44, inherits a Chelsea squad full of talent but stacked with youth. Will he be able to coach his possession-based football and make it effective in the top division? The Italian’s earned his opportunity after guiding Leicester City to promotion as the Championship winners.

The Blues take on Manchester City this weekend in their latest pre-season fixture. Speaking via Mail Online recently, Maresca shared Pep Guardiola’s reaction to his Chelsea appointment, with the duo now set to lock horns on the touchline.

Wesley Fofana shares Enzo Maresca’s message to players

Wesley Fofana has shared a very important message that Maresca told the squad at the very beginning of his reign. The 23-year-old Chelsea centre-back claims that the new head coach insisted Chelsea’s philosophy is built on winning, so that clear message is being drilled into the players.

Fofana said via Chelsea’s official website: “The manager said in his first meeting, ‘We are Chelsea and Chelsea win’. It is important for everyone to keep this in mind.’

“When you look at our team, success is trying to win as much as possible. When you see the team, the head coach, the club…this is Chelsea. Every year we try to win.”

Enzo Maresca is a winner

Maresca saw up close and personal as Guardiola’s assistant at Man City what it takes to build a winning machine in club football. In fact, he was there in the dugout during the famous treble-winning campaign at the Etihad Stadium.

On top of that, Maresca built his own success during one year at Leicester, albeit in England’s second division.

There’s no doubt he’s got a very talented crop at his disposal to try get Chelsea back to silverware after two years without a trophy, but this is by a distance the biggest role of his career so far.
