Chelsea will be really pleased with how Kendry Paez has performed at this summer’s Copa America.

The Blues agreed to sign Kendry Paez from Independiente del Valle last year, with the attacking midfielder set to join the club when he turns 18.

Despite still being just 17 years old, that has not stopped Paez from starting and delivering for Ecuador at the Copa America.

He has started in all three of his country’s group stage games and has even managed to score a goal.

Chelsea look to have a real gem on their hands.

Kendry Paez has trust of Felix Sanchez

Paez may only be a teenager, but the feeling in Ecuador is that Felix Sanchez fully trusts him after handing him a third-successive start against Mexico.

Ecuadorian outlet Ecuavisa believe the fact that Sanchez has started all three of his nation’s games so far shows that he has the support of his manager.

They also feel that he is justifying his stay in the team right now.

Paez can really make an impression in the next round, with Ecuador having to take on World champions Argentina for a place in the semi-finals.

Chelsea’s South American talents

Chelsea are in possession of so much South American talent at present.

Paez and Estevao Willian may not officially be at the club yet, but the Blues still have the former’s Ecuador teammate Moises Caicedo and World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez.

Of course, Caicedo and Fernandez, who are now the two most expensive signings in Chelsea’s history, were bought from European clubs.

But it is quite clear that Chelsea’s recruitment team really like something about South American players at this moment in time.

Their transfer strategy has heavily focused on signing such footballers, but only time will tell if the likes of Paez and Estevao will be successes at Stamford Bridge. There is still some way to go before they can make their Chelsea debuts.
