Bayelsa Queens emerged as champions, overpowering Naija Ratels 4–1 on the final day of the 2025 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six playoffs at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
This victory saw the Prosperity Girls clinch their sixth league title — their first since 2022 — confirming their status as one of the powerhouses of Nigerian women’s football.
Bayelsa Queens ended the playoffs with 10 points from five matches, narrowly edging out Nasarawa Amazons, who were held to a goalless draw by Edo Queens in their final fixture and finished second with nine points.
Bayelsa Queens have now qualify automatically for the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League, where they will aim to surpass their 2022 semi-final appearance and bring continental honours to Nigeria.
A Decisive Performance by Champions
Bayelsa Queens entered their final fixture knowing that only a win would guarantee the title.
And they delivered in style, thanks to a spectacular hat-trick from Vera Samuel, who etched her name into club folklore with a career-defining performance.
Samuel opened the scoring in the 27th minute, putting her side ahead and settling early nerves.
Naija Ratels responded with an equaliser from Itunu Adeshina in the 43rd minute, offering a glimmer of hope — but it was short-lived.
Just two minutes into the second half, Cynthia Mega restored Bayelsa’s lead with a clinical finish in the 47th minute. Then, Vera Samuel took over.
She added her second goal in the 61st minute and completed her hat-trick just six minutes later in the 67th, sealing a memorable night for the Prosperity Girls.
Elsewhere: Tight Margins and Late Drama
At the same venue, Rivers Angels managed a 2–1 win over Remo Stars Ladies, powered by a brace from Titilayo Aweda.
Despite the win, Rivers Angels fell short of a podium finish. They ended the playoffs in fourth place — level on seven points with Edo Queens but behind on goal difference.
Aisha Animashaun scored for Remo Stars Ladies, but her effort wasn’t enough to deny the visitors all three points.
Edo Queens, meanwhile, played out a cagey 0–0 draw against Nasarawa Amazons.
That result proved pivotal in crowning Bayelsa Queens champions, as Nasarawa needed a win to leapfrog them.
