Of all the positions Chelsea were looking at signing a new player for in January, left-back was perhaps not near the top of that list.
However, they are now actively looking for replacements to Renato Veiga, who is believed to be pushing for a move away this month.
The Portugal international is actually interested in a career as a centre-back, the position he is playing for the national team.

The youngster is hopeful of a move to Borussia Dortmund, with Chelsea setting Veiga’s price considerably higher than the fee they paid for him.
Chelsea can sign Patrick Dorgu for as little as £25m
The Blues are now going to be looking for a replacement for him if he was to leave. One of the names they have been frequently linked with in the past is Patrick Dorgu.
Todd Boehly would do well to add the Chelsea fan to his ranks, and would be signing a player who is already able to contribute to the first team picture.
Dorgu has been a regular starter for Serie A side Lecce for two seasons now, and has been adding to their attack with three goals and an assist from left-back in the league.
If Chelsea were to go down this route, it looks as if they will be able to get the deal done for a lower price than many would have expected.
Ben Jacobs has claimed that if structured well, the youngster could be available from the price of £25m.
He said on Chelsea Central’s playback: “My understanding is that for the right structure, Dorgu could be gettable for a package of €30m-€37m.”

Chelsea have long-standing interest in Dorgu
This is not the first time the Blues have been linked with signing Dorgu, with their interest spanning back to the previous transfer window.
It was reported that Chelsea had an approach rejected for Dorgu last summer, with them instead electing to sign Veiga as Cucurella’s back up.
It was stated that Dorgu was high on Enzo Maresca’s shortlist of players to come in, and would certainly be appreciated by the manager so he isn’t taking on the rest of the season with just one recognised first team option.
