Everyone knows Chelsea can be quite a ruthless club at times, showing that in the last transfer window.
The likes of Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah were all frozen out of the first-team squad, for example.
Chilwell and Chalobah have returned to Enzo Maresca‘s main group, with the latter joining after his loan at Crystal Palace was cut short.
For some, the way Chalobah was treated by Chelsea last summer was appalling. The club came in for criticism for it, and if reports are true they may have not learnt their lesson.
Chelsea could sell Trevoh Chalobah this month after recall
This decision to recall Chalobah from Palace was based on the injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile. Their unavailability has significantly weakened Chelsea’s defence.
Yet it seems the Blues are open to letting Chalobah go if they receive the right offer for him.
According to The Sun, Chelsea have slapped a £40m price tag on the 25-year-old and if anyone stumps up the cash this month then he can go.
It would take Chelsea back to square one, though it has been claimed that Chelsea are scouring the market for other centre-halves right now.
Why Chelsea selling Trevoh Chalobah now would be brutal
Chelsea recalled Chalobah from a successful loan spell at Palace where he was playing and even scoring.
In total, the former England U21 international made 12 Premier League appearances and bagged three goals.
It has been reported that Maresca has already guaranteed Chalobah an important role in his squad. To do a U-turn now and sell him after ending his productive stint at Selhurst Park would be distasteful.
Some would be surprised if it did happen, especially if the player’s price tag is £40m. Clubs are not going to spend that on an individual whom Chelsea do not look desperate to keep. But again, Chelsea know how to be brutal.
“He’s such a selfless lad,” Frank Lampard was quoted as saying by beIN SPORTS in 2023. Chelsea, on the other hand, continue to come across as ruthless.
