Chelsea will be taking part in arguably their biggest game of the season so far as they make the trip to the Etihad to take on Manchester City.
Enzo Maresca’s side temporarily dropped out of the top four last weekend, however returned following their first win in six games against Wolves at Stamford Bridge.
The boss is having to deal with numerous injuries as the domestic campaign begins to really heat up. Romeo Lavia will be absent at the weekend, while it is touch and go if Fernandez returns to the squad in time.
The Blues have had a real issue with discipline this season. Only Southampton have picked up more yellow cards than them in the league this season.
Most PL yellow cards 24/25 | Total |
Southampton | 65 |
Chelsea | 64 |
Bournemouth | 57 |
Ipswich | 55 |
Fulham | 51 |
Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana have both already handed suspensions for picking up too many individual bookings during this campaign.
John Brooks to referee Manchester City vs Chelsea
The whole team will no doubt need to be in good order this weekend, with them having history with the man in charge.
As per the Premier League’s official website, John Brooks will be in charge of the huge top four clash, with Stuart Attwell being in charge of the VAR.
Brooks has been in charge of two Chelsea games this season, giving out seven yellow cards in those fixtures against Liverpool and Ipswich.
Both games also saw a penalty awarded against the Blues, with both having a huge impact on the way the game ended up going.
Chelsea fans were fuming at John Brooks for penalty decision against Chelsea
A number of VAR calls have gone against Chelsea recently, however one of the most egregious was the spot kick awarded to Ipswich for a foul from Filip Jorgensen on Liam Delap.
Chelsea fans were left fuming at the decision, with them not able to get back into the game after the early call.
Maresca has been notably frustrated at officials of late, and will be hoping that there is not any controversy this weekend as he takes on his former side in a race for a top four spot.
