While Chelsea opted against adding a big-name striker to their ranks in the last summer transfer window, they came very close to biting the bullet on a big-money deal.
The Blues were really pushing to sign Victor Osimhen all the way up to the deadline of the summer window, however didn’t end up completing the deal.
Osimhen is very open to joining Chelsea, with him being a boyhood supporter of the club and an admirer of club legend Didier Drogba.
One figure who has been a big advocate for the deal to be done is former Blues star John Obi Mikel. The former midfielder has claimed he was somewhat involved in negotiations between the two parties.

John Obi Mikel says Chelsea signing Victor Osimhen is ‘easy’
His admiration is very strong. Mikel believes Chelsea could win the league with Osimhen in their ranks as competition for the striker position with Nicolas Jackson.
Mikel told Sky Sports that while the club wanted to complete a deal for him last summer, it would be a very simple deal to close should they revisit that option at the end of this season.
He said: “We almost got the deal for Victor Osimhen done last summer. The club wanted him, he wanted to come as well. I know exactly where we stopped. If we have to pick it up again in the summer, it’s pretty easy to get it done. He really wants to come.”
Osimhen is currently enjoying a brilliant campaign in Turkey playing for Galatasaray. He scored a hat-trick in his last game against Antalyaspor.

Chelsea’s other striker options
The Blues are doing their homework on a number of options to come in as a new striker, with it clearly one of their priorities ahead of what will be a busy transfer window.
Chelsea are reportedly keen on a quick signing of Liam Delap, with a number of other Premier League sides interested in his signature.
They could still yet go down the more unproven and promising route, with plenty of young strikers around Europe impressing.
This is the case for the likes of Samu Aghuhowa and Conrad Harder, who are making waves for Porto and Sporting Lisbon respectively.
