In fresh transfer speculation, Chelsea are now interested in signing a £60m-rated Premier League star.
On paper, the Chelsea squad is extremely strong and moving in the right direction. But it’s interesting to see that there are ins and outs at the West London club in the current January transfer window.
It’s bad timing that Enzo Maresca’s side are on a run of five straight Premier League games without a win, so perhaps the Blues owners are feeling the pressure.
Trevoh Chalobah is back with the Blues after his recall from a season-long loan at Crystal Palace. It means that Chelsea’s interest in Palace defender Marc Guehi hangs in the balance.
Now, transfer rumours suggest that the Blues have made a first move for a Manchester United ace.
Chelsea make enquiry for Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho
David Ornstein, who’s a reliable journalist that writes for The Athletic, reported on Friday that Chelsea have made an enquiry about Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho.
It is explained that the 20-year-old Premier League attacker is one of the candidates that the Blues are exploring.
The report says that the conversations are still at an early stage, but the Red Devils winger does fit the profile they’re looking for at Stamford Bridge.
On top of that, Chelsea also enquired about Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens. Apparently, Gittens is keen to see out the rest of the season with Dortmund.
In terms of Chelsea’s interest in Garnacho, it does seem like yet another crazy transfer target. They really seem intent on loading up on wide players in the squad.
The Mirror recently claimed that Man United are sticking to their asking price of £60m for Garnacho after rejecting a £40m bid from Napoli this month.
What Mauricio Pochettino previously said about Alejandro Garnacho
Mauricio Pochettino, the former Chelsea head coach, previously made his thoughts quite clear on Man United’s Garnacho as a player.
Back in December 2023, Pochettino hailed Man United winger as “exciting and talented” ahead of facing him as the Chelsea boss. Pochettino said: “He is an exciting player, young and talented. It’s not surprising to us because we knew about him when he was in Spain before moving to Manchester. It’s good to see a young player being brave and showing the talent that he is showing.”
Garnacho is clearly a youngster with amazing potential. At the age of 20, he’s one of the biggest attacking threats for Man United. It’s worth adding that he’s guilty of inconsistency, which is to be expected during this part of his development.
Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Premier League | 20 | 3 | 1 |
Europa League | 6 | 1 | 0 |
Carabao Cup | 3 | 3 | 3 |
FA Cup | 1 | 0 | 1 |
Community Shield | 1 | 1 | 0 |
While Garnacho does fit the profile of Chelsea’s signings in recent windows, this one may be a bit odd if it develops in the coming weeks. Instead, the Blues really should be focusing on adding a central striker.
