Chelsea are interested in signing Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens this summer.
The Blues want to bring in a new wide man and have identified Gittens as a target. He is not the only Dortmund star they have on their radar, though.
It has been claimed that Chelsea are also interested in Gregor Kobel as they weigh up signing a new goalkeeper.
Gittens, however, appears to be the Dortmund player the Blues really want to recruit when the transfer window opens.
Chelsea could sign Jamie Gittens for only £30m thanks to Carney Chukwuemeka
While Chelsea are keen on Gittens, Dortmund are fans of Carney Chukwuemeka, who is currently at the German club on loan.
Last month, Fabrizio Romano reported that Dortmund want to keep Chukwuemeka beyond this season, and their desire to do so could help Chelsea land Gittens.
According to journalist Simon Phillips, who recently discussed Chelsea’s interest in Gittens on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, the Blues believe they can sign the 20-year-old for just £30m, but they would need Chukwuemeka to head in the other direction for that deal to happen.
Chukwuemeka is very unlikely to be against the idea of remaining at Dortmund, with the midfielder getting opportunities there.
Since joining the Bundesliga outfit in February, Chukwuemeka has made 12 appearances, scoring one goal along the way.
Chukwuemeka’s Dortmund stats | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Bundesliga | 9 | 1 | 0 |
Champions League | 3 | 0 | 0 |
Total | 12 | 1 | 0 |
As for Gittens, a move to Chelsea may appeal to him. It is thought that Chelsea are ready to double Gittens’ wages in order to land him this summer.
How much Borussia Dortmund value Jamie Gittens at
Even if Chelsea do include Chukwuemeka in a potential deal for Gittens, it would be a big surprise if they were able to land him for just £30m.
In the past, it has been claimed that Dortmund value Gittens at £84m, a figure it is difficult to imagine Chelsea meeting.
Never say never, though, with the club having already spent an incredible amount of money on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.
