Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen may not be the only central defender Chelsea sign this summer.

Enzo Maresca is keen on Huijsen, with the Chelsea manager hoping to bring in another ball-playing centre-half when the transfer market reopens.

The Blues face stiff competition for Huijsen, though, with Premier League champions Liverpool and others also thought to be interested in the 20-year-old’s signature.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi has been mentioned as a potential alternative, but it may not actually be a case of one or the other.

Chelsea want to sign Dean Huijsen and Marc Guehi

Huijsen seems to be Chelsea‘s priority at the moment. Last week, it was claimed that Chelsea are the favourites to sign Huijsen.

However, there now appears to be a possibility of the Blues ending up with both the Spain international and Guehi, who was described as an “aggressive” defender by former Sunderland manager Michael Beale in an interview with Sky Sports last year.

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea want to sign both Huijsen and Guehi in a double swoop that would give Maresca a huge boost.

The 45-year-old has had to deal with a lot of problems at the back this season, including Wesley Fofana’s failure to remain fit.

The Frenchman is injured once again and will miss what is left of the campaign as a result. He is now being linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Before his arrival in 2022, Chelsea considered signing Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Adam Webster. After finally managing to agree a transfer fee with Leicester City for his signature, though, their interest in those two defenders cooled.

What Chelsea need to do to land both Dean Huijsen and Marc Guehi

Like Huijsen, Guehi is also attracting interest from multiple clubs, so signing him will not be a straightforward task for Chelsea.

As per TEAMtalk’s report, the Blues feel that they need to qualify for next season’s Champions League in order to appeal to both Guehi and Huijsen.

Fifth in the Premier League table with four tricky games to come, that will not be easy.

But if Chelsea do manage to qualify for Europe’s elite competition, it looks like they could end up with both Huijsen and Guehi this summer.
