Chelsea were humbled in their second Club World Cup group stage game as they picked up their first defeat of the competition against Flamengo.

The Blues lost 3-1 in a game that was overshadowed by a red card for Nicolas Jackson just minutes after Enzo Maresca had introduced him from the bench.

John Obi Mikel heavily criticised Jackson after the game, however in truth the whole side were off the pace, and looking like a team who were at the end of an energy-sapping campaign.

That takes nothing away from the performance of their Brazilian opponents, who deserved the win and had a number of individual players introduce themselves to a whole new audience.

Chelsea want to sign Flamengo’s Wesley after Club World Cup display

One of those was Wesley, who after an unfortunate stumble that led to Pedro Neto’s goal, put in a dominant performance in the right-back position.

It looks as if his performance left an impression on Chelsea figures, who are always looking for up and coming talents to add to their squad.

According to O Globo, Chelsea have registered an interest in signing the 21-year-old this summer. The report goes on to say that Flamengo are already internally planning for his sale to Europe.

Chelsea already have Reece James, Malo Gusto and Josh Acheampong who can play in the right-back position, however while Maresca is in charge he sees James as a midfield option.

Wesley’s dominant performance vs Chelsea

After the goal, Chelsea’s attackers had very few ideas up against Flamengo, and Wesley’s individual display was key in keeping the likes of Neto mostly quiet.

Wesley’s performance vs Chelsea Total
Minutes 82
Tackles Won 4/4
Duels Won 8/11
Dribbled Past 0
Accurate Passes 42/46

The South American side are in the middle of their domestic season at the moment, and the performance showed as their intensity prevailed over the Blues.

Chelsea will now need to secure at least a point in the final group game against ES Tunis in order to ensure they book their place in the Round of 16, where they will likely be facing Bayern Munich.
