Since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over Chelsea, the club’s transfer strategy has drastically changed.
Under Roman Abramovich, Chelsea often signed ready-made players who were some of the best footballers in the world.
Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali, though, have gone down a different route, instructing the club’s sporting directors and recruitment team to bring in young talent with potential.
They have rarely strayed from that policy. But with one 31-year-old potentially set to become available, he is undoubtedly someone the Chelsea owners need to make an exception for.

Chelsea must trigger Harry Kane’s release clause
Given the rivalry between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, the Blues signing Harry Kane when he was looking for a new challenge was always going to be almost impossible.
In the end, Bayern Munich practically had a free run at the English striker in 2023, and he has been an amazing success there. However, there is now talk about Kane potentially leaving the Allianz Arena and with Bayern not being Tottenham, Chelsea could have a chance to snap him up here.
According to The Telegraph, Kane has a release clause in his contract, which English clubs are aware about.
The above comes after Bild claimed that Kane could have been sold last month because of a £67m release clause. The same outlet has also stated that said release clause will reduce to £54m next winter.
It is not clear if a deal this summer is possible, which is ideally when Chelsea will want to sign a new centre-forward. But Kane could be well worth the wait as he continues to score goals for fun in Germany.
The England international has already found the back of the net 26 times this season, while his total tally the campaign before was 44.
Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap seems to be the striker Chelsea want, but someone like Kane would be the dream, even if he is in his 30s now.

Chelsea have had past interest in Harry Kane
During his time in the Premier League, Kane was perhaps the No.1 centre-forward, the best of the lot.
“We are talking about a world-class striker,” former Tottenham manager Antonio Conte was quoted as saying by TNT Sports.
It is no surprise, then, that Chelsea actually looked at signing Kane. In fact, heading into the summer of 2023, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy expected Chelsea to make an offer for Kane.
That never came and the England captain would go on to join Bayern. But if he ever wants to return to the Premier League, hopefully Chelsea make themselves an option.
